Departure on foot from the boat. After strolling through the narrow streets of the town center, lined with 17th- and 18th-century townhouses, you will visit the Treasure Museum of the Hôtel-Dieu.
The town of Château-Thierry bears witness to a long history of charitable presence, including a Maison-Dieu mentioned as early as 1195. However, it was in 1304 that the Hôtel-Dieu was officially founded by Joan of Navarre, Queen of France and wife of Philip IV the Fair, modeled after the Hôtel-Dieu in Paris. The institution served as a place of refuge for the poor, pilgrims, the elderly, and the sick. They were housed, fed, bathed, and cared for by the Augustinian sisters. These women lived cloistered within the establishment, managing and expanding it over the centuries.
Today, the museum houses over 1,300 works and tells the story of seven centuries of history. The Treasure of the Hôtel-Dieu will transport you beyond time—a truly exceptional treasure in the land of Jean de La Fontaine.
The visit will conclude with a guided champagne tasting.
Return on foot to the boat.
Note: In the event of exceptional closures or private events, this visit will be replaced by a guided tour of Château-Thierry followed by a champagne tasting.
