Taking care of our environment

CroisiEurope’s longstanding environmental position focuses on nature as our most valuable asset.

We consider ourselves pioneers in our field, as our commitment to protecting the environment goes above and beyond our legal obligations. We are continually reflecting on how we can expand our green efforts.

After conclusive tests carried out on the Seine River with our partner AS Energy, our ships now use GTL fuel. Gas-to-Liquid fuels combust more uniformly and result in lower emissions.

Here are other environmental initiatives we would like to share with you :

  • Installation of water-saving devices on all our vessels, helping to reduce drinking water consumption and therefore decrease wastewater production.
  • Installation of onboard water fountains that filter municipal water and convert it into high-quality drinking water, thereby saving several tons of plastic each year (municipal water is filtered and bottled onboard, using activated carbon filtration and UV treatment, with added carbon dioxide for sparkling water).
  • Installation of wastewater disposal systems on all our ships, which are emptied during port calls at wastewater treatment plants or into urban sewer systems. Some vessels are also equipped with onboard treatment plants. The entire CroisiEurope fleet is fitted with an onboard water treatment system that helps protect the environment in the event of accidental wastewater discharge into a river.
  • At the CroisiEurope river terminal, installation of a wastewater collection tank directly connected to the city's sewer system.

  • The engine retrofits carried out across our fleet comply with the emissions requirements applicable to inland waterway navigation, particularly under the CDNI. Our latest-generation vessels are equipped with engines that meet current standards, helping to minimize their environmental impact.
  • The Green Award certification recognises part of the CroisiEurope fleet for its high standards of safety and environmental performance.
  • Our vessels are equipped with systems combining real-time energy consumption monitoring and electronic navigation charts. This allows captains to adjust engine power according to navigation conditions (current, depth, traffic), helping to optimize fuel consumption and reduce associated emissions. In addition, the latest-generation engines incorporate technologies designed to improve energy efficiency, contributing to more efficient energy use.
  • The ventilation systems in our engine rooms are soundproofed, helping to reduce noise pollution.

  • When ports are equipped with power outlets, we systematically connect to shore power (Power Lock system). Most of our vessels are fitted with low-energy electrical systems.
  • In winter, most of our vessels are moored in river ports equipped with electrical connections that supply power to the boats, thereby reducing noise and emissions.
  • In Paris, we operate our tours using electric buses, which are quieter and less polluting, for greater comfort for everyone.

  • To encourage guests to reuse bath towels onboard, we raise awareness of environmental issues through both written and verbal communication.
  • CroisiEurope is a partner of Imprim’Vert, an organization that promotes environmentally responsible printing practices. All company documentation is printed using vegetable-based inks on unbleached paper.
  • The company is also a signatory of the metropolitan charter "Tous unis pour plus de biodiversité" (All United for Greater Biodiversity), supporting eco-friendly management of green spaces at our river terminal.
  • As part of our efforts to reduce paper consumption, we have digitised our travel journals and feedback forms. This initiative helps limit our environmental impact while offering a smoother and more accessible experience for our guests.

  • All of our waste is sorted and compacted on board before being recycled.
  • Food waste and organic waste are collected and processed by specialised companies, primarily for the production of biogas.
  • Used engine oil is collected and transformed by onshore specialists.
  • Cleaning products are selected according to criteria designed to minimise their environmental impact.
  • Exterior paints contain no pollutants.
  • Straws, cups, and other utensils, which were previously made of plastic, are now made from biodegradable cardboard.

  • Our company is a member of E2F (Entreprises Fluviales de France), an association that brings together industry stakeholders and coordinates joint initiatives to address the major challenges of the future.
  • Our company complies with the requirements of the CDNI for navigation on the Rhine (Convention on the Collection, Deposit and Reception of Waste in Rhine Navigation) and has decided to apply the same standards across all rivers.
  • Our company also implements the unified charter of commitments for cruise lines operating in Mediterranean waters, with the vessel La Belle des Océans achieving 81% compliance.
